Schedule: The tour departs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 10:00, and on Wednesdays at 14:00.
Meeting Point: Astana InterHotel, in front of the main entrance (113, Baitursynov St.)
Tour Description:
After meeting your guide at the meeting point no later than 10 minutes before the tour departure time, you will begin the tour with a ride to one of the oldest parks in Almaty—the Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen—where one of the most beautiful wooden buildings in the world, Zenkov Cathedral, is located.
In the park, you will also visit the Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame, listen to your guide’s stories, and admire the Museum of Musical Instruments. A leisurely walk under the crowns of old trees will take about 40 minutes.
The next point of interest is a popular place for locals—the Green Bazaar—where it is impossible to refrain from shopping. It is a great opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a real Eastern market, with its colors, smells, and crowds.
Here you can buy famous oriental sweets, dried fruits, local products, and souvenirs, but don’t forget to bargain. Cash in tenge (local currency) is accepted in the market, so it is advisable to have some with you, or you can use the nearby exchange point.
After the bazaar, the tour will continue to Kok-Tobe Hill, where the tallest TV tower in the world (if measured from sea level) is located. You will reach it via a picturesque winding mountain road using eco-cars.
At Kok-Tobe Park, you can stroll along the winding paths, admire the magnificent panorama of the city from the observation deck, throw a coin into the “apple” fountain, and visit souvenir shops. The tour ends with a short cable car ride from the top of the hill to the city center, followed by a drop-off at the original meeting point.
